CHROMASCAPE 166: ASPENS AT WILLIAMS FORK MOUNTAIN

ASPENS AT WILLIAMS FORK MOUNTAIN

Silverthorne, Colorado  |  2025

This image is wholly about the striking contrast of brilliant fall aspens glowing against the dark, almost black, Williams Fork Mountain. While hurrying home after helping a friend hang her art show in Steamboat Springs, I was stopped in my tracks by this autumn scene. The farmer's fields stretched before me to a massive stand of aspens at their border. Rising above the golden trees was a mountain covered in dark sedimentary and metamorphic rock. The overcast afternoon light filtered unevenly across the landscape, creating subtle variations in color intensity that enriched the scene and gave depth to the image.

While Chromascape 164 captured the open sky and beautiful light from this same location, this is the image that called to me. Chromascape 166 hangs large in my home, a homage to the beautiful contrasts found in Colorado and a reminder to always make time to stop and create my art, even while rushing from point A to point B in my daily life. ~ Marc
