Death Valley, CA
I love the colors of the desert and the barrenness of the landscape. It's a unique place to make my art. The majority of these photos are made during sunrise and sunset of Lake Manly. Lake Manly is an ancient lake that was glacially formed in Badwater Basin in Death Valley. The lake last existed some 10,000 years ago. Today it forms for brief periods during major storm events, like Hurricane Hilary that came inland from the Pacific in 2023 and flooded Death Valley. It was an incredible experience to create Chromascapes with such a large body of water on Badwater Salt Flats, 282’ below sea level in one of the driest places in the United States.
